Managing Scabies at home

Scabies is a pruritic skin ailment which is caused by Sarcoptes scabiei that creates burrows in the skin and results into intense itching. Once diagnosed with scabies you will not just have to make efforts for curing yourself but also to save people in your vicinity from getting infested.
You will have to strictly adhere to the instructions of the doctor and take the required action at home. And treatment for scabies is not just restricted to you but to all others who come in your contact. Apart from all the medications you have to follow some home managing tips for speedy recovery. It’s not that you can rely solely on home remedies but of course you can cure it to a great extent.

Since Scabies is a highly contagious disease so it can easily spread to other people and therefore you have to make sure you don’t create more patients along with you. Even being a sufferer of scabies it becomes your utmost responsibility to make sure that everyone that comes in your contact should be treated well.

Disinfect everything
Your bed sheets, pillow covers, towels, handkerchief, curtains and everything you use should be washed on a daily basis. Don’t repeat the same bed sheet and pillow covers the next day. Even change covers of television remote control, air conditioner remote, the fridge’s handle and everything else.
Since your medication is taking you everyday towards improvement so don’t cling to things you used the previous day as the bacteria finds an easy way to persist.
Tip: You can even pack your stuff and keep them away for sometime because you cannot literally disinfect everything. Things like laptop, tablet, books can be bagged and kept away till you are back to your normal routine.

Isolate yourself
It is better you stay at home for a while when infected with scabies and enjoy your own company. Sometimes spending time with yourself cannot just make you love yourself but also save others from unnecessary fear of getting infested.
Tip: There is nothing wrong with this. Isolating yourself will only lead to speedy recovery.

Follow your doctor
Don’t put in your brains to alter the medication dose. Whatever your doctor has prescribed you follow that. Also you should take a shower every time you apply the lotion or cream suggested by your doctor.
Tip: You may be a master mind but your doctor is specialized to treat you in the right manner. So, follow the prescription and go ahead.

Treatment for everybody at home is must
Despite the fact that you have isolated yourself and disinfected all your personal stuff but still you need to take care that everyone at home has started with treatment after you are infested. And not just family members if you have a sexual partner you need to make sure he or she is treated the same way you are. But do not involve in sexual intercourse till you are not fully cured.
Tip: Don’t wait for the symptoms to occur, when you come in contact with a person with scabies you should straight away visit your doctor.

Use vacuum cleaner
Vacuum your carpet, furniture, sofa bags and rugs. If you have a canister that can be removed make sure you wash it with hot and soapy water otherwise simply wipe it off with a damped paper towel.
Tip: Throw your bag once you are done with vacuuming.

Check with the doctor if you are pregnant
If you are breastfeeding your baby or are looking after your toddler, take the doctor’s advice. This can prevent your baby from getting infested.
Tip: Scabies can irritate children more so it’s good to see the doctor in such a case.

Be strict with your personal hygiene
You should maintain your personal hygiene as much as possible. Keep your hair clean, cut your nails, wear properly disinfected clothing everyday and also change handkerchiefs on a regular basis.
Tip: Wearing clean clothes will always reduce the risk of spreading the infection further.
